Periodontal Gum Treatment

Keep your gums healthy and free of periodontal disease

We are proud to offer Periodontal Gum Treatment

Gum Treatment

Have you noticed that your gums are swollen, red, or tender? Do your gums bleed easily, such as when you floss and brush your teeth? If so, you may suffer from periodontal disease. Periodontal disease, which is also known as gum disease, is a condition that affects the gum tissues and can cause serious problems for your entire smile. Bacteria in plaque and tartar cause gum disease; when plaque and tartar build-up on the teeth, the bacteria inflame and irritate the gum tissues. If this condition is not treated, it can lead to a receding gum line, bone loss, and tooth loss. In addition, research has shown that untreated, periodontal disease is connected to several health complications, including:

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Pregnancy complications
  • Respiratory conditions

If you suffer from gum disease, our dentists and dental team will do all we can to restore the health of your smile. We offer several periodontal treatments, including scaling and root planing (deep cleaning treatments) and PerioProtect. If you believe you may have gum disease, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible to schedule your visit. We are dedicated to helping you keep your smile healthy.

The Perio Protect Method®

The Perio Protect Method® is a minimally invasive, comprehensive gum disease treatment. It is backed by technology, and the results are proven through research.

Where Other Periodontal Cleaning Methods Fall Short

Brushing, rinsing, and flossing are important. But these efforts fail to reach deep below the gum line where bacteria thrive—in the periodontal pockets.

Traditionally, deep cleanings, known as root planing and scaling or surgery, have been required to reach deep into the pockets to treat advanced gum disease.

Scaling involves numbing the gums and then scraping and smoothing the tooth surface to remove bacteria to prevent them from adhering.

Surgery traditionally requires cutting the tissues to lift a flap to be able to clean the root surfaces. Often, these processes must be repeated over multiple visits. It can be frustrating, painful and invite harmful bacteria into the new wounds.

Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed to fight bacteria. Immediate results can be promising, but they are often only temporary. And over-prescription of antibiotics can compromise their long-term efficacy.

The Perio Protect Method Explained

The Perio Protect Method

Perio Protect is doctor-prescribed and patient-applied. When you receive your custom Perio Trays, your dental team will show you how to place a small amount of prescription medicine in each tray. You wear it for just minutes each day. Your dentist will also design a treatment plan specifically for you, as each patient's duration and frequency vary.

The trays are designed with a patented seal to place and hold medication where it is most effective—at the site of infection deep below the gum line. A low concentration of hydrogen peroxide gently and thoroughly cleanses the periodontal pockets, combatting bacteria, whitening your teeth, and freshening your breath.

For some patients, the non-invasive Perio Trays™ reduce the need for surgical intervention. For others, it can be a potent compliment to traditional treatment methods, helping to ensure a more successful outcome.

While there is no “cure” for gum disease, it can be managed with daily treatment to prevent pathogenic bacteria from recolonizing. When the desired results have been achieved, your dentist will revise your treatment plan to maintain the results.

The Perio Protect Method is an appealing, minimally invasive option for advanced periodontitis and early-stage gum disease alike.
